We need to slow down and read patiently, lingering and meditating on God’s Word. It’s easy to fall into bad habits or allow personal Bible reading to become routine because we are already familiar with the story and content of the Bible. Many seasoned Christians have read the Bible for years and heard numerous sermons or Sunday school lessons. One other subtle challenge we face is familiarity. We’ve already addressed several obstacles to effective personal Bible study: busyness, distraction, aimlessness, and prayerlessness. “ Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things and give me life in your ways.” (119:37)Įven with consistent time and a deliberate plan, our personal Bible study will not produce lasting spiritual fruit in our lives if we do not pray and ask for God’s help to understand, believe, and obey his Word. ![]() “ Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it.” (119:35).“ Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.” (119:34). ![]()
